Address handling and anonymous performance measurements in the first-stage map.

Last updated: 2026-10-21

Addresses and map locations

You can use the map without an account. A submitted address is sent to our geocoding proxy and then to US Census or, when configured, Geoapify. We do not store the original address, search phrase or precise map coordinate in the application database or analytics. Address queries use POST requests; application logs do not record their bodies. Search results remain temporarily in your browser memory.

Your browser requests basemap and terrain resources directly from OpenFreeMap and Mapterhorn. Like other network providers, they receive connection information, including your IP and tile requests. The geocoding providers receive the submitted address. Their own policies apply to those requests. Cloudflare processes network requests to serve this site; our application does not retain raw IP addresses. Rate limiting uses short-lived, minute-scoped hashed keys, separate from analytics.

On US flood tools, the selected point is sent through our proxy to FEMA's public National Flood Hazard Layer. We do not store that precise point in the application database or query-timing analytics. Browser location is requested only after you choose the location button. The LOMA information questionnaire is processed in browser memory and does not submit an application or collect a name, email, certificate, or financial record. The coastal demonstration uses fixed public example coordinates.

Anonymous measurements

We collect a random identifier per operation, query type, elapsed milliseconds, outcome, trigger, page language, a fixed source-page label and whether a decoded terrain tile was cached. We do not attach accounts, cookies, addresses, coordinates or IPs to those measurements. We attempt to record when a visitor leaves before an operation completes; browser termination may prevent that message from being delivered. Performance statistics cover the last 30 days. Expired records are deleted when new measurements arrive.

Regional demand is stored separately as coarse zoom-8 grid cells, with query/request type, time, language and source page. It has independent random identifiers and contains no precise location or address. The high-resolution request button does not collect an email address in this version. Regional statistics cover the last 30 days; expired records are deleted on subsequent collection.

Cookies and accounts

The public map uses no advertising or third-party analytics scripts. Essential cookies may be used for language preferences and administrator sign-in. Accessing administrator features requires an account; account and session data are separate from anonymous map measurements. Payments, subscriptions and invitation flows are not enabled in this version.

Changes

This page describes the current MVP. Any later account, marketing, email-notification or analytics feature will require an updated privacy description and appropriate controls before activation.
